going loco

The dark side for ales tonight. An MLCCC first.

mentoring

Enrolled in the mentoring program at work a couple of weeks ago. The idea is you get assigned someone senior in the department, who you can get on well with to have informal chat about your career development.

They assigned me a dud. Someone with the charisma of a pea. And we’ve got nothing in common. I asked immediately for them to find someone else. Fine, they said. Unfortunately they’d already told him. Got an e-mail last night:

How about getting together after Chinese New Year?

What with you? Wouldn’t have thought so…

Egg.

security

The security guards in my block of flats have been working with uncharacteristic zeal the past few days. Reaching to open the door faster, smiling wider, and shouting their morning greetings that decibel louder. The reason is clear: it’s Chinese New Year next week and they can smell lai see. Well, their last-minute tactics won’t affect me. I was going to tip them generously anyway since they’ve been good to me over the past year. Particularly when:

  • I came home shitfaced without a key - They picked me off the floor and found a chair for me to sleep in.
  • I came home too shitfaced to understand numbers - They helped me find the right floor.
  • sorry mister jackson

Not you Samuel, I’m talkin’ ’bout Michael! The so-called “trial of the century” is ramping up. The jury pool is down to just 250 candidates from an initial 4000. Over 1000 reporters and media staff are in town. Gracefully, it will not be televised. Given the nature of the charges I don’t see how it could be. Anyway, it’ll be a few months of accusations, rebuttals and re-rebuttals before a verdict is made. A rollercoaster ride if you will. Different from the rollercoaster ride on his private Neverland Ranch of course.

    press buttons

Since Sunday I’ve been mostly listening to Push the Button, the latest record of The Chemical Brothers. I’m not a huge fan of theirs, but this is impressive. Does it signal the revival of Dance music in 2005? I’ve no idea but this album is putting some freshness back.

    Push the Button

    Also listening to:
William Shatner’s take on Pulp’s Common People.
My Lovely Horse by Fathers Ted and Dougal.
The 12th Man - Sports commentary doesn’t get better than this!

    the mantle is ours

Shaky has left the rock. But not before passing the mantle to Gunther and The Snoop. And here’s the mantle…No we’re not mental…It is a mantle…Once again, not mental its a mantle…Definitely not a shelf.
