the o’s

Sorry Spike. Sorry Hemlock. I just got back from an awesome weekend at the Olympics. We saw the last two days of athletics.

Click to make it bigger to check out his face and fingers. Steve Hooker vaulting 5.96m to beat the Olympic record.

Here he is, still on the way down, pointing towards his trainer, I think.

We had a box with unlimited biscuits, drinks, ice-cream, sandwiches and cake. Well actually only the biscuits seemed unending. It was overlooking the 200m bend, if you get me, actually right behind the magic flag poles for the medal ceremonies, so we got close ups of Usain Bolt run his leg of the 4×100m, the men’s jav, the men’s pole vault and the USA/GB women 4×100m baton mess up.

Awesome stadium, so easy, no queuing except at security to get in which took 5 mins, during which you were sprayed with a nice cool mist of water vapor. Crowds were not mental as the space is just so huge.

Atmosphere was great, everyone rooting for everyone. Everyone standing for the anthem of a gold medal winner. Never noticed it before, but the other events stop, and the judges and competitors stand and turn towards the flags.

Everyone was so friendly. The volunteers all over the place were great.

We saw 5 Olympic records I think, and 1 world record.

Was just brilliant.

Wish I’d gone for all 2 weeks.

Anyway, more later.

  • Since GB demolished Australia this time, I was rooting for Hooker. He has a hell of a temperament, clearing three heights on the third and final attempt.
