I love HK airport. Love it. Especially on the way back into HK. Me and some mates have a running competition – how long from gate to sofa (at home)? Current best is 36 mins.
Anyway, we just got sent this at work:
The Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) will implement new measures for screening liquids, gels and aerosols starting from 21 March 2007, to comply with the new guidelines of the International Civil Aviation Organisation.
The new security measures for cabin baggage at HKIA include:
1. All liquids, gels, aerosols in cabin baggage have to be carried in containers with a capacity not greater than 100 ml. Liquids, gels, aerosols carried in containers larger than 100 ml will not be accepted, even if the container is only part-filled.
2. Containers have to be placed in a transparent re-sealable plastic bag of a maximum capacity not exceeding one liter. The containers must fit comfortably within the transparent plastic bag, which should be completely closed.
3. The plastic bag has to be presented separately from other cabin baggage for visual examination at the screening point. Only one transparent plastic bag per passenger is permitted.
4. Exemptions will be made for medications, baby milk / food and special dietary requirements subject to verification.
5. For details, please refer the website at Civil Aviation Department : New Security Measures for Cabin Baggage at HKIA
So you need to take super small deodorant, shaving foam etc if you are going for a weekend away.
Ridiculous. Total waste of time. The only way to make the cabin totally safe is to travel with no bags and totally nude. It’s common sense.
It’s only a question of time until you have to change into a little white jumpsuit and are allowed nothing on the plane at all…
…though nude is a good idea, take a look around the office and think how many times you go…ewwwww ~grin~
Darn, you beat my personal best of walking in the front door 41 mins after leaving the plane. I knew I shouldn’t have helped that lady with the pram!
Hmmm I think it is a ploy to get us to buy more at Duty Free.
Wow! It must be soooo nice to live in a first world city with first world transport.
My best time on transit from SFO to my place in The City is 75 minutes. And did I mention that it’s only 25 KM?
Now if I were driving, it would only take me 25-30 minutes. Yes, public transport here is really that awful. Do you all take the AeX or just cab it?
Aex. If there is no wait, then it’s quicker. 24 mins.
Mia – 44 mins is my PB.
36 mins was a mate. But he lives in Kowloon, just above the Kowloon AeX station.
only 24mins? The AEL takes that long to get to Central!
Which gate do you mean? Immigration?
My best is about one hour from wheels down to sitting at home in Fortress Hill, with a five minute wait for luggage, and a prebooked taxi.
Dave – I meant that the train takes 24 mins. Not the full run. By gate i mean the time you exit the plane.
31 minutes. (I think I ought to get bonus points because I had the G in tow. Then again, maybe not because he’s brilliant at running ahead and securing a cab.)
Now it takes 45 if I’m lucky and there is *no* public transport option.
31 mins!? Ah, in a taxi …. to where though?
Midlevels – Hospital Road. Only works if you take the highway and approach from the west and all the lights time perfectly and there’s no construction and it’s in the evening *and* your cabbie knows he’s got to gun it through the first light to make the rest.
With these new rules you have to be careful if you buy duty free liquor at one airport, it may be confiscated at another… I was reading about this somewhere, fuck, I’ll get back.
Hey, do you realise you are #2 on google search

Didn’t know! Great spot.
