The prices will drop dramatically just before they introduce Intel versions.

Sure. But when will Intel G5s be out?

    Rather .. Intel Powermacs.

Last on the list - Jan 07, I reckon. Mac Minis Jan 06, iBooks March-April, PowerBooks July, XServes October (my prediction anyway!)

Personally, I’d say wait till the Intel versions come out and then decide whether to grab a massively reduced G5 or a shiny state-of-the-art Intel one. I bought one of the 20″ G5 iMacs in October and, now they’ve released the new one, I’m gutted. Still a great machine though… just need to replace my ageing Dell with an Powerbook and I’ll be a happy man (IT wise).

Either that or go for the flying lessons…. or diving… something to get away from life on dry ground. It’s a feeling you won’t be able to replace easily.

Yep, decided last night that I so do not need a new G5. I’d like the 30 incher, but do not need it.

Ahhh… there’s the rub. When does need come in to the matter when want is the real question.

I still think they’ll release a corker of an Intel based machine (maybe with a 256MB nVidia card as standard with an option for a top-of-the-line Quadra card? And SATA RAID as standard? And a case that doesn’t scratch just looking at it? And look at that pig outside the window! I do believe he’s flying!)
