some tv news

Fox says it is OK to get shows from friends. Click here then choose option 8:

8. Can I get tapes of FOX Network Primetime Shows sent to me?

ANSWER:
The FOX Network does not provide nor sell videos of any of shows, specials or movies that air on the Network.

Our recommendation is to ask co-workers, friends, family and neighbors for anyone who may have taped off-the-air the show you are looking for.

Can friends include people on the internet who ‘tape’ it onto their computer and send it to you via a data transfer protocol known as Bittorrent?

Wonder how long that will stay there? If it’s different, I snapped it:

In2TV from WB. More legitimate use for P2P tech.

Warner Brothers is preparing a major new Internet service that will let fans watch full episodes from more than 100 old television series. The service, called In2TV, will be free, supported by advertising, and will start early next year. More than 4,800 episodes will be made available online in the first year. The move will give Warner a way to reap new advertising revenue from a huge trove of old programming that is not widely syndicated.

Programs on In2TV will have one to two minutes of commercials for each half-hour episode, compared with eight minutes in a standard broadcast. The Internet commercials cannot be skipped.

America Online, which is making a broad push into Internet video, will distribute the service on its Web portal. Both it and Warner Brothers are Time Warner units. An enhanced version of the service will use peer-to-peer file-sharing technology to get the video data to viewers.

I read about the Sony ‘rootkit’ DRM software the other day. Spike writes more about it here and suggests a solution.

It turns out that the software may be breaching copyrights as well!

Here is a list of ‘infected’ CDs.

It comes in a Mac flavour too, so thank god I don’t buy shit CDs.

When are they going to realise that you cannot hide from the deep geeks?

1st east central invitational

From The Snoop:

Since there isn’t time for a weekened of golf before I leave The Rock, let’s see if we can fit in a quick nine holes. I’ve booked us a tee time at the East Central Public Golf Course. For those not familiar this is a world class course with breathtaking vistas of urban decay and a superb caddy service. Here are the details:

Tee time: Nov 19th, 1:38pm at the club house (OCH)

Rules: Full rules to follow.

Handicap: Your handicap for the day is determined by your gaudy golf appearance. The more ridiculous you look, the more generous the handicap. Gloves, flat caps, plus fours, accroutrements all recommended.

1st prize is the hallowed green jacket. Winner to be decided by a complex system of stroke total plus opinion of available caddies. Caddies decision is final.

All the lads are in!

I’m going for something like this (on the left):

Sourced the tartan and Tam o’ Shanter today. Meeting my tailor tomorrow. Where to get the Argyle socks though?

lyric app

EvilLyrics looks quite neat if you are into lyrics and singing. Displays lyrics for the current song in Winamp, iTunes, Foobar, QCD, WMP etc. Special Karoke Mode that highlights the current line being sung. PC only I think.

However, if you were promoting something like that on your site, would you choose Jimmy Somerville?!!?

in a ranting mood

Feckers that call me by my surname in emails. I am not from HK so have not chosen some weird ass name for a forename (Kenathan, Komix, Steadman, Materno, Carburetor) - and don’t give me the ‘I get confused as here in HK we put the surname first’ - I sit opposite you, you twat, you know my name!

Glassed.

[My contribution to Needs To Be Glassed. Like bears, people who wear helmets while riding Segways down the Champs-Elysées, Eddie Murphy’s eyebrow and allegories]

shocked

Shocked I tell you! At how many people asked what my poppy was for. I know it is a European and Commonwealth thing, but this place was part of that until 5 years ago and it does commemorate the end of something called a WORLD war. Shocking. Google knows.

However, I didn’t know about the Taiping Rebellion. So, I’ll shut it.

The Taiping Rebellion (1851–1864) was one of the bloodiest conflicts in history, a clash between the forces of Imperial China and those inspired by a Hakka self-proclaimed mystic named Hong Xiuquan (洪秀全), who was also a Christian convert who had claimed that he was the new Messiah and younger brother of Jesus Christ. Most accurate sources put the total deaths at about 20 million civilians and army personnel, although some claim the death toll was much higher (as many as 50 million according to at least one source.

Talking of WWI, check out this old feller:

Henry Allingham, 109, from Eastbourne in East Sussex, was a WWI aircraft engineer and is the last survivor from the Royal Air Force’s creation in 1918.

“We owe so much to these men who gave all they could have given on my behalf and everyone’s behalf. It is so important that we acknowledge them.”

Mr Allingham was accompanied by 12 trainee aircraft engineers from RAF Cosford, near Wolverhampton.

He wished them success in their careers, adding: “I’d like to join up again. I’d give it another go if I could.”

They don’t make ‘em like they used to. I moan at having to get out of bed at 6am. OK, I’ll shut it.

miss hansen

I’m loving All My Dreams by Miss Hansen. It’s on Buddha Sounds, Vol. 2: The Arabic Dream — A Personal Voyage Into Downtempo Lands.

Check it out why don’t you?
