ebay

Anyone tried to sign up for an Ebay account from Hong Kong? As soon as you choose your country to be HK, it switches to ebay.com.hk, which is all in Chinese. No option for English. I spoke to the live chat dude:

Ebay Dude.: Hello and welcome to eBay Live Chat. My name is Robert. How may I assist you today?

Shaky: Hello. I’m trying to register an account. When I choose my country - Hong Kong, it switches to ebay.com.hk which is purely in Chinese. I cannot read Chinese. There is no option for English.

Ebay Dude.: You may need to use a translation program to register while registering or get the assistance of someone that can read Chinese to complete your registration and then you can use the main eBay page with your account.

Shaky: OK thanks.

Ebay Dude.: Do you have any other questions?

Shaky: Yeah. Do you not think that is a little bit ridiculous?

Ebay Dude.: I can understand your feelings and that it would be nice if there was an exception for Hong Kong but that is how the system currently functions.

Oooooooook. So I know this is a Chinese city, but please, give me the option of English!

Yeah, it’s more Internet rock suckage. I tried to enter a transaction via Paypal which I abhore. I don’t have an account with those thieves but that, theorhetically, wasn’t a problem since there was a “non-members” method. Which worked until I selected “Germany” as the country. Thing switches to Deitch, takes my info and then proceeds to tell me that I’ll have to open a Paypal account to complete the transaction and after doing so will have to start over. Uh, no I won’t.

Now that I think of it, it would be a perfect opportunity for you and FEASTAD to grow closer.

And they probably want your zipcode too. I think some of these programmers think the US is the only country in the world.

What do you expect from a company whose US site still provides an English “translation” on every item page which is priced in UKP or AU$? They have noticed that Canadians speak English, at least.

I know…. these programmer who designed these global networking website, and assigned only one language per site is soooo stupid. There are so many of us who is living in Hong Kong and can understand 3 or more languages except CHINESE. So, what are we supposed to do?

  7. 7 meh  your flag — Hong Kong (definitely maybe)

As soon as I couldnt find the english option I took to google to see if I was the only one annoy by the stupidity. But in any case, I opened an account via ebay.co.uk and it works on the HK site. So I guess just register using an enlgish speaking one e.g. us or uk first and just try to muddle your way through? You can click to “Watch” an item fro the HK site and then move to the UK/US site to continue the transactions…
Personally not had major problems with paypal..

Yeah, it’s crazy, I have tried to use ebay here in Hong Kong several times!
it’s a nightmare…no english what so ever, not even english instruction on how to get a translation programme running. There is not really alot of places where you can buy quality used goods in this city, it’s a shame, that the hundreds of thousands of us English speakers here cannot buy and sell on ebay.hk.

Come on guys and sort it out!

Here’s an option guys….try finding your items at AMAZON.com
