ifc rant 2

I work near the IFC mall, and that’s where I go for lunch every day. Alas, all, all my favourite places have closed down in the last few months.

I used to love Eating Plus and the local style Japanese place next to Zentro — don’t know its name, I called it El Japo-Loco. Both have closed. Also Oliver’s Super Sandwiches closed, to be replaced by a shite burger place called Tripple O or something. It is awful. I’ll let Hemlock tell you:

Early afternoon, and wild American friend Odell drags me into Triple O’s in Exchange Square for some White Spot fast food. “They serve beer,” he promises. This turns out to be so. The brew’s cold and disguises the taste of the ‘BC Burger’ – a vile concoction of beef, bacon, a vaguely cheese-type substance and gummy mayonnaise. In all fairness, I can just about put it in my mouth. It is fitter for human consumption than the muck served at McDonald’s – which isn’t saying much. It’s not actually ‘fast’ fast food. You place your order, pay, sit down and wait for well over five minutes before a smiling Filipino girl with a metal stud under her mouth brings the meal.

Previously, there was Bravo, a place that sold cheap local food. I called it El Loco-Loco. Gone.

So now you have Pret, City Super and Mix for sandwiches, or expensive sit in restaurants. I want to have a quick sit down at lunch sometimes, I don’t always want a take away sarnie, but I don’t want a $300 set meal either.

Sooooooo, I wrote to the IFC.

In relation to: One & Two ifc
Comment: Why are all the good food places closing down?

Eating Plus, Bravo, the Japanese food place next to Zentro have all closed down recently.

If I don’t want a take away or a steak/burger lunch, there are no cheap options.

Bring back Eating Plus!

The reply:

Dear Mr. Kaiser,

Thank you for your e-mail. I understand that it’s a shame to learn of some popular restaurant closed. Indeed, it’s the choice of our tenant to be stay or leave ifc and it involves their own business decisions. In order to anticipating the needs of our customers, we have been trying to maintain variety choices of restaurant in our mall. Recently, we have one Japanese
sushi bar & American bar & grill opened, it could be enhanced the choice of meals for our valued customers to a certain extended.

We looking forward to welcoming you to visit the ifc mall again.

Best regards,

Yeah, it’s their choice when you hike up the rent!

My campaign is just starting. Let them know.

It’s happening in NY too.

Something had to make room for expensive clothes shops. Good luck for your campaign…if I worked anywhere near IFC I’d join in, but I don’t. Up where we are it’s far worse….you’ve got Canteen, Olivers, Starbucks and Pacific Coffee.

There’s always someone worse off than you. In this case, me.

Shops with two shoes and a handbag? Or a figurine shop named after a nazi war criminal?! It is shite … who shops there?!

I agree and even Pret seems to be getting worse. Watery tasteless sarnies and the last time I stopped by I tried “Spicy Pork Soup” - was it f*ck - just loads of MSG!

The real key is Hemlock no longer raves about IFC.

Your an idiot. Who cares that much? Too much time on your hands. If you spent that time doing something constructive maybe you could afford other options???
