Right, I’m out of here for a week.
Stay safe and take it easy.
This morning, six little fellas put up the bamboo, now I have 3 topless little fellahs installing the new units. Shouting at each other. I told Gunther, he replied:
Upon hearing that, I spun my seat, pointed my feet toward the window, stretched back with my hands behind my head and said “I love this dirty town”.
I cannot fathom how much ‘grooming’ it took on the inter-geoff to get 2 fellas round to your flat – especially when they knew it would have no air con…
UPDATE: One of them is hacking up and spitting. Not sure where. I can only hear it.

Off to Bali on Sunday for a week. We have four days in Seminyak and then three days in Ubud.
One of my mates is getting married, so a load of us decided to make a week out of it. We will be staying with all the journalists, at the Sofitel in Seminyak to start with, then to the Alila in Ubud.
The Sofitel looks quite nice:

So does the Alila:

The actual wedding is at Begawan Giri. Why am I not staying there? Check the rates! More pics here.
We have a couple of things organised. Diving on Monday and a “Boy’s Day” on the Thursday. Other than that, relaxing.
The Boy’s Day is rafting and river sumo (whatever that is!) followed by a good feed and a few brews, the diving:
10.00: First dive will be at the USS Liberty Wreck
11.30: Lunch at the restaurant
13.00: The second dive will be at drop off wall
15.00: The third dive will be at Batu Kelebit, just around the corner from Tulamben bay, 15 minutes by jukung this beautiful site, Batu Kelebit are two large underwater boulders lying just off shore from a point market by a jagged crest of lava.
18.30: Depart from Tulamben
21.00: Arrive back at your accommodation.
I simply cannot wait to see those boulders!
Ah, one, slight hitch. I just heard from someone. She’s in Bali.
I’ve no had no aircon in my apartment for two weeks. ‘Orrible.
Still no aircon, but I do have scaffolding. I love bamboo scaffolding.

While were are on the Philippines: ‘Japan soldiers’ found in jungle.
Last night I watched an amazing documentary: The Boy with the Incredible Brain.
All about Daniel Tammet:
a British autistic savant gifted with a facility for mathematics problems, sequence memory, and natural language learning.
He’s not that autistic though, he communicates very well and that’s why he is considered so important:
“Savants can’t usually tell us how they do what they do,” says Snyder. “It just comes to them. Daniel can. He describes what he sees in his head. That’s why he’s exciting. He could be the Rosetta Stone.”
There’s a review here and a news story here.
The documentary also subjects Mr. Tammet to a series of tests intended to amaze viewers and convince scientists that he’s not, somehow, cheating. When, after only a week of language study, he appears on Icelandic television, chatting in the native tongue like a pro, the skeptics appear to be silenced.
It’s amazing. He does the complex maths, well he doesn’t, his brain does it unconsciously, then the answer comes to him:
‘I’m seeing the numbers,” he explains. ”But I’m not seeing them. It’s strange. I’m seeing pictures, shapes and patterns. Almost like a square, like the texture of water. Drops — ripples, almost. Like something reflective. It’s something you can look through, almost metallic. Like bubbles. Then a bit like a flash.”
Has this been in the news over here in HK? HK siblings murdered in New York.
A young Queens woman — who’d been involved in a heated love triangle — and her teenage brother were bound in duct tape and brutally stabbed to death in their home Thursday night, law-enforcement sources said yesterday.
The bodies of Sharon Ng, 21, and Simon Ng, 18, were discovered in their bedrooms about 9:40 p.m. Thursday by her boyfriend, whose name was not revealed by police.
The coppers caught the killer with the help of the guy’s last journal entry.
