hk online apple store

Bunch of jokers.

The shop in the IFC were not sure if they would have OS X Tiger in today, so I ordered it from the online store as they guaranteed delivery by the 29th.

I just got a confirmation email of shipping:

The following products shipped on 27.04.2005. Your order should arrive within 5 business days of shipment.
If you place an order for Tiger by 4/26, Apple is committed to deliver by 4/29.

That says ‘deliver’ yeah?

Just got a voicemail from the Apple store saying that I had to go to pick it up from their office. Would I call them back. They didn’t even leave the address. I called back and got an answerphone. I left a message but have not heard back. So I called the 800 number from the website:

“Press 3 for English”
3
“Press 4 for order related enquiries”
4
wait for a bit ……
Some Chinese jibber jabber ….
“I pressed 3 for English, why are you talking to me in Cantonese?” [OK, I was being extra arsey]
“Sorry. OK, can I have your order number?”
….
“OK, we just called you”
“I know, you said I had to pick up my order.”
“Yes, we are very busy. Many orders.”
“That’s not my problem, I paid for delivery today, not a pickup from you today.”
“OK, I’ll speak to my manager and see if I can get a courier to deliver.”
“Look, deliver it to me within the hour, or refund my money and cancel the order.”
“OK.”
“In my hand. You have one hour.”

They are just having a laugh, trying it on. I wonder how many people are heading over there to pick it up and save them money.

Absolutely outrageous.

Well it’s been an hour and it’s not here. I’ve had no calls or emails. Nothing.

UPDATE: got a call.

“We will deliver by 6pm.”
“No you won’t. I can walk downstairs and pick one up right now. Where is your office?”
“Times Square.”
“That’s 5 minutes away. Jump in a taxi and get it to me before 4 or cancel my order.”

Let’s see.

Thing is, I’m just being an ass. I don’t even want or need it seeing as my new G5 will have it installed. Still it’s the principle.

UPDATE: delivered at 3.43pm. By ‘it’ I mean the Family Pack, even though I only ordered the single user version. Lovely.

So they did sort it in the end, but I think it was outrageous that they called up asking me to go and pick it up.

My mail on .Mac disappeared! That’s a bit flakey. DG in IFC had it at 6 p.m. + 50% off either an iSight or Airport Express.

All my accounts in Mail disappeared when I installed 10.4 (I had ones set up for .Mac, work and GMail.) Fortunately, I’d made a backup. I also had a number of little useful things break, like a daemon that watched to see if my laptop was being woken from sleep, then brought up the login screen when I woke my PowerBook back up. Widgets are very cool though, and I’m going to be installing 10.4 server on my server today on my spare drive that I use for testing so that I can play with Mobile Home Directories, blogs, Jabber and other assorted goodness that come with 10.4 Server.
