more spending?

Ooooh. Feel like a G5 upgrade? I might wait for the dual core CPUs though Goeff.

At the launch of the G5, they promised 3GHz within a year. Not there yet, though.

I never read so much whining as I did on appleinsider. I mean, the new 2.7Ghz is 8% “faster”, comes with 250GB instead of 180 and has a new 16x dual layer drive. An incremental update and, if you bought a 2.5 with 250GB and 16x drive (assuming it was available) it would’ve been about $200 more.

I think Apple could release a 3.0Ghz tomorrow if they wanted to. But it would be liquid cooled and I suspect they’re waiting for a CPU that can be air cooled without high-speed/high-noise fans. They’re all about design and not the bleeding edge.

Oh…love the comment about moving to AMD. Uh, yeah. Even if IBM would sell AMD a license to build PPC they’d need to tool for it. Not a small investment for what amounts to less than 10% of the CPU market. Not sure that the ROI would be sufficient. And moving to x86 means re-writing all of Mac OS X owing to endian issues. Boneheads. :-)
