What I thought was general malaise and a result of the ale and pies at the weekend turned out to be flu. Or is it? I heard tell of the ‘fact’ that you only get proper flu about once in your life, and when you get it, you really know it, and will be in bed for a couple of weeks. Three days so far for me. I felt reasonably OK on Monday, considering. However, I did gay outgo home pretty early each night of the 7s.
So let’s see:
Typical clinical features of influenza include fever (usually 100° F to 103° F in adults and often even higher in children) and respiratory symptoms, such as cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, as well as headache, muscle aches, and often extreme fatigue. Although nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea can sometimes accompany influenza infection, especially in children, gastrointestinal symptoms are rarely prominent.
Most people who get the flu recover completely in 1 to 2 weeks.
Fever - yes
Cough - yes
Sore troath (sic) - yes
Runny nose - yes
Stuffy nose - yes
Headache - yes
Muscle aches - yes
Extreme fatigue - yes
Sharpittarping brownish water every 30 mins - yes
Sooooo, what do you reckon? I’m feeling slightly better today, but still have the muscle pains, stuffy/runny nose and now, thank the Lord, ear-ache. Could it be the grippe?
— United States (definitely maybe)
You’ve got the same as me, old chap. 103 deg, over the worst in a few days, but hacking cough, sore throat and lethargy linger for a fair while longer.
On the upside, every cough is like doing a crunch and you don’t feel like eating, so you’ll come out of it slimmed down and with abs of steel.
I suggest getting some of that Korean Citrus tea in - damn good cos it’s made with honey and drinking the stuff dunner hurt your thoat too much. When you are better you can still make the tea but put vodka in too. Magic.
Also all the rage Darkside is Cup O Soup and vodka - well I’m trying to get it going and so far I haven’t many takers….give it a try anyway you know it makes sense.
I went through a spell where whenever I drank to excess I’d be sick for days after. I don’t mean just the headache, queasy stomach thing. I mean also including a cough, sore throat, fever and so on. It wasn’t every weekend but often enough that I started to see a pattern. So far (as far as i can tell) you’ve had the same thing twice now after busy weekends.
The solution? None that I found other than not getting drunk. Aging I tell ya, is a cruel thing indeed.
Christ alive, Shakers, you are scaring us! Hope you feel better soon. Get some honey and lemon, thats the stuff. Honey soothes and is a natural bacteria killer, dont know if it works on viral complaints though.
And lots of green vegetables, you need iron and vit c to fight of the body.
Studies show that you can reduce the duration of such and illness by 1/3 on average by popping the high Vit C tabs like candy, but they have no effect on you getting ill to start with, so it is a bit of a cure but not prevention.
What I hate when feverish is the awful dreams, and getting a stupid song in my head which wont go away and keeps me awake.
You have our sympathy!
And I wish I could write english properly.
Shake, a tablet of Redoxon (Vit. C concentrate - should be available in Watson’s) a day would certainly help.
Dont want to sound too technical, but if you can, get yourself some pseudoephedrine (Tablet 60MG) and Ibuprofen (Tab. 200MG). They are available at Watson’s as well (I think!).
Of course, drink loads of water and rest more.
Get well soon, matey.
Thanks guys. I am feeling a bit better now. Fever has gone. Yep, I’m gorged on Redoxon, Coltalin and water.
This little rant isn’t aimed at you guys, it’s at the people that know me, and I know they are only concerned, but there is no need to call me twice a day (unless you are FEASTAD) to tell me what to take, I have a fooking post grad degree in medicine — well, it says medicine on the certificate, but it was in immunology.
Soooo, yes, I’ll take some pseudoephedrine … cos I know it’s a vasoconstrictor, working via adrenergic receptors on nasal mucosa. That means it will reduce the interstitial oedema, sorry, swelling, in my respiratory tract, making my breathing easier.
Ooof, and to think my head lecturer told me all I would remember was that a primate is the only animal with a pendulous penis.
No, really guys, I’m messing, thanks for the concern and advice.
now that he is ranting. i think he’s recovered !
so are you going to the gym these days still?
P.s. nice that you could still remember all those technical bollox!
I was with ya up until the pendulous penis. Then ya lost me!
Gym, erm, well, I’ve been busy see, er, no. Start again next week!
The funny part, Shake, is that the Counter’s been working out nearly daily and you who recommended it to him…..*sigh*
Get back to the gym, you bum!!
Any update re: FEASTAD and her tidy, very tidy sistaaar?
Are you sure your not coming off smack?
Feck! - I get over ‘the grippe’ & now I have a common cold…..me nose is melting.
Easy formula, Load Toad….Redoxon, Coltalin and water!
Less fags of course will help as well.
I tried Coltalin yesterday mate - what feaky dreams…….I think we could sell them down 348.
Nose melting here too.
whoa, Shake, still havent fully recovered or is this a new one?
Not sure what it is, but I’m off to the docs, my earache hasn’t gone. What a mess.
Earache!? That doesnt sound good to me, shake. You take good care of yourself, mate.
At least this time (the earache) cant be transmitted to others….remember the red eyes last time? You, your doris and me!
I’ve cancelled Friday and am intent on making a super human effort to restart drinking on Saturday. Starting with an OCH fry up. Kill or cure time.
Nice efforts there, LT! OCH fry up….now that’s something I miss about HK!
I’ve heard from my Welsh choir comrades that they’ve got a very tidy bargirl there. Is she really?
