Fact: The Motorola V3 RAZR is the shittest phone I have ever had. It’s going back to the shop today.

Slow menus. Slow phonebook scrolling. Saves SMS to SIM card (no option to change it, except by hacking the firmware — so deleting is slow and if you have a small SIM, it holds about 15 messages then tellsyou it’s full). One number per contact in the phonebook. Doesn’t sync via iSync-Bluetooth (does via USB). Can’t use Address Book to call/SMS on the mac.

There are lots of little quirks too.

Choose snooze when the alarm wakes you up, but then get an SMS, open, read, close, back to sleep …. the alarm is off, late for work.

If you are composing an SMS, and one arrives, you have the choice, read or exit, exit and you carry on writing your surrent message. Then when you send, I’d expect it to take you to the inbox. It doesn’t. If you choose read, it saves your current message to drafts and displays the new message. Then I’d expect it to take you back to the message you were composing. It doesn’t.

If the screen is off, uusually, you can press a button to activate the screen, it doesn’t matter which button. On this phone, it does, the button you press activates the thing it is supposed to.

If you click ‘Back’, it takes you back one menu, so you press it a few times to get back to the front menu, however, press it once too many times and you activate the camera.

It’s v.v.thin, so it looks cool and you would expect some compromises. Also I think I like iTAP better than T9 for the predictive text.

Anyway … off to take it back right now!

Indeed, but it’s got to be usable for what you need it for. I could not use this phone for SMSing.

Well. Apparently, ‘not liking’ a phone is not a good enough reason to get your cash back. So I just sold it and bought a diff one. Expensive lesson.

S700i. SE are the best, should never have strayed. However, it’s a bit big, and the swivel bollox is shite. Anyway. Waiting for the SE K750i, which should be out soon.

motorola are shite. ewveryone knows that. it’s american for gods sake so what do you expect? they’ve only just discovered sms etc over there so it;s all new to them. how can you expect them to make decent sms phones when they don’t use sms.

a basic rule applies to technology - only buy from countries where the climate is crap - e.g. japan, finland etc. in these places the locals spend all their time indoors inventing clever stuff (or drinking themselves to death) instead of wishing they were shooting meat with melted tasteless cheese dripped over it and eating wildlife (or should that be the other way round?) or whatever it is americans do in the great outdoors.

why do you think the brits have invented so many things over the millenia - cos the weather’s crap. and the reason most british inventions are actually scottish is cos that’s where the weathers worst!

Kind of wish you’d have told me before I bought one a week and a half ago.

Actually the SMS function isn’t any worse than the Nokia it replaces so I didn’t notice that about the V3. Once you turn that predictive shite off, same as the Nokia.

My pet peeve is the charger. Let the phone run down to zero, plug it in and it turns itself back on…but doesn’t charge. To get it to charge you actually have to turn the damned thing off again. Or (I guess) not wait for the battery to go completely dead first.

It’s got some other quirks that make me think I may just have a bad unit. Which is why I ditched Nokia…their latest phone lasted a whole two weeks before it went to pieces.

But like Franky said, it’s just a phone.

Motorola is shite indeed. Most of those quirks you mentioned have been issues with the V 600 I’ve had for a while as well, before I smashed it on the pavement in anger.

I have also switched to the K700i, and what a fucking relief.

Phones…..can’t get excited about them myself….however…

Can’t they make a nice lickle phone with useful gadgets on it? Tweezers, knife, compartments for illegal drugs, Tabasco dispenser, excuse maker….?
So I can’t save fifteen SMS messages…..er…why would you anyway?

After 6 weeks of usage and 3 replacements these are the results :

1. System freeze – system freezes frequently though in a random manner
2. Keyboard light dead – very often the screen is on but keyboard lights are off.
3. Java applications freezing
4. Phone goes dead – only camera on screen – no buttons respond. System has to be reset by removing battery
5. Talk time 45 minutes max
6. Standby time 24-36 hours max
7. Hinge squeaking
8. Bluetooth headset - ‘weak signal’ warning and cutoff within 1-2 mins of usage
9. Speed keys do not work – even though phone book shows it assigned to a key, pressing the key gets a message the key is empty
10. Phone switches off and restarts frequently.
11. If a series of calls are received, often after completing a call and the next call comes in, the phone does not ring or vibrate – only the screen lights up.

A cursory scan of the net shops a good number of users with these issues. If you are looking just for a fashion accessory ok… if you want a working unit or value for money or hate being made a fool of, then the Razr is best left in someone else’s hand. Cant say crap or rotten… its a prototype being sold as a finished product.

Feckin excellent; held the chips off and doubled on the black pudding + 4 pints of wife beater. No sign of a fit barmaid (one 40 year old Filippina and a bloke - take your pick). After 12.30pm the tussage count went up with an influx of ODH (Off Duty Hookers) which was a distraction.

I nipped home to change into beer boots and the day finished at 5.30am after a night in…LUX, BG, Jewel, Mes, DTD, JB……etc Well monged.

omg v3 is so fucking shit. my bf has had 3 replacments in 2 weeks. first one kept freezing, second one lkept switching off and third one which he got yesterday well the bluetooth doesnt work. so he is taking it back today. shitty phones i swear!!!!!!!!
MOtorola shud just stick to making walky talkies
