When cultures clash

An amusing story from Shaky about trying to buy a phone in Fortress and being offered to a dummy phone to evaluate:The Geeky Kaiser: “I’d like to try out a real one, I want to try out the operating system.”

Shaky, I think your mistake is that you have assumed that the market requires the average HK phone punter to know what an o/s is or what functions actually work on the phone. Normally the decision is what hello kitty sticker comes with this or do I get a free rice cooker!!!!

Yeah, our cell (sell) phone robots are pretty dumb here too.

One time I asked to see a phone and was handed a dummy by the dummy working there. I then asked to see a real working model and he told me that they don't have any. I then asked to see the phone on his belt (was the same model I was asking about).

He told me that "store policy" didn't allow him to show me his phone which was identical to the one I was asking about.

He then tried to close the sale. HA!

he's clearly been to the same salesman school as my car salesmen from my car purchase fiasco. apparently the idea of trying a product before you buy it is alien in hong kong
