cloth

Was up early on Saturday to help my mate with his new PC and the wonderful world of the internets, followed by a spot of lunch and MLCCC blazer shopping.

Cricket blazers are colorful expressions of the team spirit and close camaraderie that comes from playing together. Cricket blazers cover the range from very stylish to boisterous expressions of bright colors and outrageous design

We were looking for something like this:

Alas, most tailors just looked at us in a confused manner and didn’t have any type of stripped cloth. One did though, and had a made up blazer to show us in white and navy stripes. Not bad, but not great either, the cloth looked crap:

“How much?”
“Can do them for $1000 if you need 35.”
“Erm, no, it’s a small club, we just need four.”
“$1800 then”

Bit steep. Will keep on looking. As far as membership goes, we have four definites, three maybes, one request for non-playing membership and one request for an honourable overseas membership.

Cricket is a game that owes much of its unique appeal to the fact that it should be played not only within its Laws but also within the Spirit of the Game. Any action which is seen to abuse this spirit causes injury to the game itself. The major responsibility for ensuring the spirit of fair play rests with the captains.

1. There are two Laws which place the responsibility for the team’s conduct firmly on the captain.

Responsibility of captains
The captains are responsible at all times for ensuring that play is conducted within the Spirit of the Game as well as within the Laws.

As Captain, I’ve decided that sambuca shall be the spirit of the game.

Last night, we were out watching the rugby and one of the Naughty Chinese Dorae joined us. She was abusing us for being “drunken bastards” (a bit harsh. If CB Level 42 then we were at about level 3 last night)

Her: “You two are just drunken bastards.”
Mate: “What are you talking about, we’ve started a cricket club that’s the …”
Me and mate at the same time, unrehearsed: “Epitome of English gentry.”

We almost high-fived.

Talking of the number 42, the Google Calculator knows the answer to life the universe and everything. Look at the top.

    Dear Sirs,

My name is Jason Edmonds. I once captained Warwickshire under sixteen’s under the supervision of Alan Townsend in the eighties. I am the Captain of the Shakespeare Rogues Cricket Club based here in San Diego, California. We are all ex-pats from the United Kingdom. We are having our first annual dinner dance after a fixture on July 16th. We are holding a large raffle and presently attempting to put our prize list together. We would like to respectfully ask The Shake Kaiser if they would like to donate a prize for our top spot. Perhaps you could all sign something for our clubhouse. Our theme is world cricket. All donors will be mentioned in our program for the evening. Possibly a miniature bat or a ball with an autograph on it.. I am sure you are swamped with requests like this however this is a genuine cause. We use the money raised to upgrade equipment and organize fixtures. I will attach an article that was published in the San Diego Tribune that reflects how serious our team takes the game of cricket. I can be contacted here in San Diego at 619-805-5149 or by mail. We would be grateful to receive anything. Our thanks in Advance.
