er, yes, geeky

The geek sign below reminded me of this:

The Bikes Against Bush guy was arrested.

After seeing that demonstration and being assured the chalk was easily removed from the sidewalk with water, officers consulted with their superiors, placed Josh under arrest, and confiscated his bike & equipment. He was charged with vandalism and released on Sunday morning.

So he was doing a demo for the press, the police turned up, said it was vandalism, despite the chalk being water soluble, and chucked him in jail with a load of other cyclists. Right.

holiday planning

How hard can it be? First we wanted a Cambodia trip, then Malaysia, but both proved too difficult. Work/time/flight constraints are causing issues.

We need a “Here’s three grand, there’s your plane, there’s the beach, dive shop there, here’s your sarnie. Thank you, what’s next” type holiday.

Basically, need somewhere within two hours with evening flights. So, Manila then Cebu (or somewhere) it is. Leave after work, cheeky night in Manila, up to fly down to Cebu the next morning.

Something like that anyway. It’ll do. Not what we really wanted, but it’ll be cheap and easy.

nibbles update

I was about to go mad, but then he goes and buys me lunch. He ordered in some lovely Indian nosh (albeit lacking in meat) which I polished off in about 5 mins. He’s just finished (49 mins). I just can’t be nasty to him now!

cathay

Cathay’s online booking service requires IE or Netscape. Or Internet Exploder and Netscrape as some, er, geeks call them. Ridiculous. So I sent a feedback thingy and got a speedy response:

Dear Mr. Kaiser Shaky,

Thank you for your email.

We regret you could only view and enjoy all of our online services if you use IE or Netscape at the moment. Nonetheless, we would certainly include your suggestion in our website enhancement plan.

Please accept our apologize for the inconvenience caused.

Best regards,

Esther

Not bad, wonder if anything will come of it? In the meantime, I’ll be accepting her apologize.

geekend

Nah, quiet weekend after the semi-large Friday.

Saturday was spent downloading and watching Spiderman 2 and then watching the footy. Dismal weekend for the weather, and dismal weekend for my fantasy footy team.

Sunday, out for some rip-off Thai food. Accidentally bought that new phone but luckily managed to talk myself out of a new screen at the last moment. The look amazing, but I realised I hadn’t read any deep geek reviews of them.

The phone is great. Slick new OS that’s much faster than the T630. It can take video and sound, which will be useful in my new hobby as an interviewer and can play MP3 files. I’ll now be able to trigger a Hey Ya Sambuca™ whenever I like!

Some annoying things about the phone though:

  • Can’t use the joystick to wake it up from standby
  • Can’t stand it up on its side, which I like to do
  • Can’t switch off the annoying shutter sound on the camera
  • Minigolf is gone! (can just d/l the old one, if you can find it)
  • The order in which you press the buttons to lock the keyboard is reversed

Anyway, I haven’t had, er, so much, er, fun with a phone. Again, it sync’d up perfectly with my Mac.

We popped into HMV for a few DVDs. Doris chose Eve. It has NO dialogue and just looks like a long advert or something. That lasted about 10 mins. Crash lasted about 20 mins. It’s shit. Then The Siege, which I quite liked, for a bit anyway, then I got bored. Doris then watched Windtalkers whilst I fannied about. I chose that one in HMV, only to realise I already had it when I got home. Tit.
