It’s crashed twice already.
Not happy.
It’s fast though!
I’ve tried out Safari and Mail, but fancied Firefox and Thunderbird. Also got Azureus going and downloaded some apps and music, also Acquisition as another P2P client, Gnutella I think. Overnet as well. Something called MPlayer for movies etc. FileBuddy, whatever that’s for. Azureus was lightning, about 700MB in 30 mins or so.
It’s easy to get going, you download a dmg file (whatever that is), double-click and drag to your applications folder. Job done.
The control and apple keys are confusing, as are the min/max/close buttons being on the other side of the window. Some apps close when you exit, others stay in the dock thing.
Oh, Movable Type doesn’t work properly in IE/Firefox/Safari … the old URL/B/U buttons missing issue.
The middle mouse button doesn’t open links in new tabs in Firefox, it does in Safari though. Still deciding which to use as my default. It would be Firefox I reckon if the middle click worked.
Not entirely sure how to attach my speakers, there’s only one output socket, but I have three cables.
The mouse wheel doesn’t work in text entry boxes in IE.
Haven’t figured out a way to have something to click on on the desktop to connect to the Internet, but I haven’t yet sorted out the router, no bloody cables. So I have to go into the network options and connect from there. There must be an easier way! Oh, and I keep getting a reminder that I am on the Internet, would I like to stay connected …. yes I would and I don’t want to see this again!
Expose on the thumb button on the mouse to show all windows is fancy shit.
Oh, what did I get? A G5 with:
Machine Model: Power Mac G5
CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (2.2)
Number Of CPUs: 2
CPU Speed: 2 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 1 GB
Bus Speed: 1 GHz
Boot ROM Version: 5.1.8f2
Still need an avi->mpg converter and something to burn DVD/VCD with. Not sure if there is something built in. Also an image editor.
The keyboard is lovely. The mouse (my old mouse) isn’t as smooth as on windows.
You can’t delete a file by pressing the delete button, or maybe you can, but I can’t.
It doesn’t detect my camera when I plug it in. But I haven’t read anything about it at all.
So, it sounds like a lot of moaning, but I’m pleased, just need to get used to the little differences and iron out the little niggles.
Now, where is the command line…..?
