I’m thinking of making “the switch” buying a Powerbook, or do I go for real power? That Powerbook just looks utter class though. If I were a geek, you’d have to call me Omar The Tent-maker.
Not sure why, just fancy a change and I reckon a Mac could do everything I needed it to. Let’s see:
- chit-chat
- web browsing
- FTP and secure telnet
- CD ripping and encoding
- MP3 playback and organisation
- photo import manipulation and storage
- file sharing - overnet, kazaa, bittorrent
- video file conversion (avi -> mpg)
- DVD authoring
- DVD burning
- occasional use of word precessing, spreadsheet etc
Hmmm, playing some games will not be possible, so I’ll have to keep my PC for that, but then, I only play one game a year or something now.
So, any Apple geeks out there got any good info/news sites for me to peruse?

Get the 15-inch PowerBook. My sister has one. It is MUCH better than a PC. Cost: 15900 HKD
I am using a 12-inch iBook. Also very good. It’cheap too - 8,700 HKD for the really basic one.
P.S. What I do is I use my PC for file-sharing and games. If your PC is a good one with outstanding performance, you dont need to get a PowerBook. PowerMac is too expensive!
Feel free to email me (address in comment details) about any mac related questions. I’m a longtime user and would be happy to help a fellow blogger - particularly one from the Land of the Shiny Green Suit.
Best wishes
