flights, snay, uk

Get this:

Two hundred flights from Heathrow were cancelled and Gatwick, Stansted, Luton and Birmingham airports were also hit.

How much did that cost the UK?

Bunch of fuckwits, every freaking year. So you can’t fly to New York or say Canada, Russia, Sweden, Lapland etc.? I’ve landed in NY in the middle of a snow storm, they just have loads of ploughs keeping the runways open.

Hmm, but I suppose the staff have to get to the airport too:

Many routes in the Midlands and the south of England were turned into ice rinks on Wednesday evening, causing lengthy delays for travellers.

Heard of salt?

For a country that is supposed to be obsessed with the weather, we don’t prepare for it. Unlike this guy:

The adventurer regularly carries a sleeping bag, a flask of hot, sweet tea and a spade in his car when winter conditions are forecast.

Ahh, I was reminded of a joke here. Er, but it’s racist, so not going to write it here.

Update @ 5pm: Bollox, scooped by the new kid.

Update @ 5.15pm: Just saw this email:

We are seeing delays today with reports - is our database affected
by the wrong kind of snow?

Update @ 6pm: So far received 5 pictures from various family members depicting the ravages caused by 2 nanometres of snay.

Comedy word of the day:

pantisocracy

Supposed to be some sort of Utopian community, rule equally etc.

Sounds more like Wan Chai.

rugby

England have got a new captain…. on a game by game basis. (Thanks) Also spotted by fellow rugby fan, Sweet Chariots.

I note the 6 Nations squad contains Henry Paul and James Simpson-Daniel, both of whom were in the HK Sevens teams in the last two years. So looks like they won’t be in it this year. Not sure though.

Ah, the new 7s squad is here.

Is U Monye Ugo Monye? The tall, lanky geezer that’s as fast as an egg? I think he played last year.

Not doing too bad this season. Winners in SA. Semis in Dubai. NZ and LA next month, England vs the Aussies on day one of the NZ 7s and England v USA in LA. Nice.

Then we all know what happens.

No Ireland or Wales I notice. Good old Kenya are back, so are Chlamydia.

bbc

Dodgy behaviour by the BBC.

Despite being one of the main players in the drama, anyone searching for “Hutton inquiry” or “Hutton report” on the UK’s most popular search engine Google is automatically directed to a paid-for link to BBC Online’s own news coverage of the inquiry.

No other news broadcaster or any newspaper has paid Google for this facility, leaving the corporation’s move even more conspicuous.

As one of the chief “interested parties” in the Hutton inquiry into the apparent suicide of Dr Kelly, the move will strike many as worthy of comment, not least because the BBC’s online news pages will not be the most obvious place to go for the most comprehensive coverage, which is bound to include painful criticism of the corporation.

Oh, the chairman has just resigned.

payday

My shameless plugging worked out. T-shirts on the way! One for me and one for Doris! Thanks gmtee.
